I motised/rabbetted the stems to accept the ends of the stringers.

I motised/rabbetted the stems to accept the ends of the stringers. I don't know why I did this. Just seemed to be the thing to do at the time. It will protect the tips of the stringers slightly and make a more postitive joint.
