PFD pockets

Posted by: Dean Trexel on November 21, 1999

At the 2 symposia I've been to, I've learned in safety classes that it's a good idea to keep a few essentials on your PFD so that if you end up separated from your boat, you still can signal for help with flares, maybe a cell phone, etc. One instructor went as far as to have a mini-survival kit on his PFD including matches, fire starters, an emergency blanket, etc.

I should probably be practicing some of this stuff that I've learned, but I haven't yet. At the very least, PFD pockets are handy for an energy bar or 2.
