WEST stands for Wet Epoxy Saturation Technique which revolutionized boat building. You can't saturate wood with polyester because as the wood moves it will come off and now you have bare wood. That's why there's no WPST. Some rigid boats are coated with polyester and glass that are made of thick plywood and do well since they're stiff and don't flex. With stitch and glue, you want the boat light as possible and the wood does flex like aircraft. If you really want the lowdown contact WEST, they'll have your head spinning.
