The standard saying is, "Dress for the water, not for the air"

Can you comfortably enter the water in your proscribed paddlewear?

How long can you stand it?

The wave heights mean nothing as far as temperature goes, but can you handle various water surface conditions?

Definitely need a wetsuit under 50*F--probably a drysuit. In 70*F water, I usually only wear a pair of 3mm neoprene shorts--under that, I start dressing more warmly.

The best advice I can give is: Get in the water with what you will be wearing; can you stay warm (functional) long enough to perform a self-rescue?
