National Public Radio did a feature today on the new Chinese unmanned spacecraft that was launched and orbited the earth 14 times. I know, I know, we did the same thing 40 years ago but let's not be too nationalistic here. Designs for U.S. spacecraft are available on the internet but the Chinese have used some of their own unique innovations. For example, the vaunted heat-resistant tiles on the space shuttle are made of some exotic materials that cost a fortune. The tiles on the Chinese spacecraft- epoxy impregnated wood! Who knew that us boat builders have been on the cutting edge of space-age technology?
I humbly offer two suggestions: 1. We get Nick to add some Chinese language translation software on the BB so our fellow sojourners and builders can share epoxy tips from their own unique experiences. 2. The great minds of this BB suggest alternative uses for what I thought were simple, even primitive crafts. For example, can I paddle my Ches. 17 across molten lava? Now there's an article for "Sea Kayaker" for you!
