I know the horse is out of the barn but I also leaned the hard way (when feathering lapped glass cloth) it is easier to remove epoxy and not the adjacent material if you use a scraper and not a power sander. And scraping is easier the greener the epoxy, 24 hours of cure is good timing. A scraper is also the easiest way to remove epoxy runs or drips. If you buy one you will be glad you did by the time you complete your boat.
