> Patuxent 17.5, CLC Chesapeake LT16, or Pygmy Arctic Tern.
patuxent was my first kit boat-if you want something that is fast, manueverable, weathercocks, and the bow buries in waves this could be the boat. With a skeg or small rudder it has some kind of niche for paddling in wind with no waves ?It's volume is in between the LT 16 and the Tern. Tight for size 11 feet.
LT 16 is a good choice for a 125 paddler with room for 70 lbs of stuff, or day paddler for a 150lb person and lighter trips. Snug for size 10 ft. Well balanced. Good for high winds especially if you are at the upper end of its capacity. I built a 16 and took a little less off the shear than the LT and like it a lot. I weigh close to 180.
Don't know a thing about the Tern personally but from my experience with other pygmy boats, and Mike's discriminating taste, I would think it would be a very fine boat if you weighed at least 175 and wanted lots of room, besides a good balance of tracking and manueverability.
I wouldn't think a person that fit in a LT16 would consider a Tern or vice versa for the same kind of paddling experience as the volumes are very different
