hey mark,
I put a message similar to yours few months ago when I was getting ready to start my first kayak. the only difference from your message was the kayak. I asked for opinions on the "coho". many people put many responses & they all had positive remarks about the coho. I see the same thing happening with this thread. I then, posted another message asking for some bad opinions. I still didn't got any, but I learned from the responses that the first kayak I'll build will be the best most wonderful most anything that I can want & dream, no matter what kayak it's going to be. when I'll build my second kayak, it's going to be as the above, & the first kayak will never see water again. so I figured it doesn't really matter which kayak I'll pick, from those that have my initial requirments of size, volume, etc'. so I picked the "coho", with no special reason. & I don't intend to build a second kayak for a long long time, because I like to build kayaks, but I like to padle them more.
hope this helps.
p.s. yes, put some money on kayak building books ("the kayak shop" etc'), but also visit this site frequently. you'll get answers to questions before you even ask them, & your kayak will be a better one.
