Thanks, I find that the VCP hatches really are water tight. There is about a half inch of space around the hatch. Just enough to get a few fingers in. It is not difficult at all to remove and replace the hatch cover.

As for my next boat, I'm designing it from scratch and am now in the process of building a full size cardboard model to check out the design. I am using ProBasic from New Wave Systems http://www.newavesys.com/ to design the hull. I'm using Key Cad from The Learning Company http://new.shoptlc.com/ to design the deck beams, hatches, bulkheads, and coaming.

I guess I have the kayak building bug.
