Well, i dont know if I'd give the description as much "theatre" as you have , but I will agree, the circular hatches do clash abit with the long lines of the kayak - especially a strip-built. Even an ovular hatch would do the job better. Ideally, I think Schades 4 sided rounded-corner hatches are the most appealing Ive seen so far. One could even elongate these to further echo the long lines of the sea kayak. Still circles aren't BAD, they just seem uninspired from a design stand point. Circles have a way of being used to "solve" all sorts of design problems from architecture to the shoes on your feet. Sometimes its a success. But my opinion the circle is often the designers way of masking an uninspired "shrug" when it came time to compose a space.
