Drysuit Experience

Posted by: Jerry K on November 27, 1999

I'm a reformed whitewater kayaker from the Pacific Northwest, and even on very cold, snowy January days, I paddled rivers in a Kokatet drysuit top, with drysuit bottoms underneath. I was never, ever cold with a layer of polypro underneath (except when waiting for the shuttle afterwards....)

I continue to use the drysuit top when I sea kayak on cold, rainy days, and have never been sorry for the investment. I like having the one piece jacket, so I don't HAVE to wear something on my legs, but like having the Goretex and the gaskets to keep me completely dry. When teaching sea kayak rescue classes, I was always the "victim", so I've even spent a fair amount of time in the water awaiting rescue, and stayed warm and fairly dry, even when submerged.

Hope this helps...my $0.02. Jerry
