With no experience, I'd highly recommend a book - Nick Schade wrote one on strip-builts and Chris Kulzycki (sp?) wrote one on stitch and glue construction. Nick's is available on this site, Chris' is available at the Chesapeake Light Craft site.

Both have tables of offsets for several boats. The only free plans I know of are on Nick's "Kayak Building Reports" page (stitch and glue).
