Recessed deck fitting

Posted by: Kent LeBoutillier on November 29, 1999

Hi All,

I finally got a chance to get some more pictures scanned. Mike Allen and Ross Leidy asked for a closeup of the deck fitting here it is. The blank is 2-1/4" square and 3/4" thick. The fitting outer diameter was cut with a 3/8" dado bit and is 1-1/2" in dia. and the inner diameter is 1-1/8" and was cut using a 1" round nose bit. I made the inner diameter with several cuts with an end depth of 9/16". The cross piece was added just before I installed it in the deck, after fine tuning the blank. Its about 1/4" thick and is rounded over on the underside. I also have a picture of the jig I built to make them it has an unfinished blank in the bottom corner.

There's some other shots of my flush hatch inside, and the cockpit setup on my web site in the photo album: http://ktsyak.tripod.com/index-1.html Hope the photo link works better this time!
