I would strongly recommend you buy plans if you have no boatbuilding experience. Building your first boat will be much, much, much, easier if you have good plans and instructions. Plans are not that expensive. Using a plan that was developed by a reputable firm and that has been built by others should also help to ensure that you end up with a boat you will be proud of.
