Gary, I would not recommend leaving the cove and bead at the shear. It's tuff enough to get the joint to line up after glassing with a butt joint. My experience with mating the shear tells me no way I could mate a cove and bead and have a clean joint. Block plane them to match. I used 6 oz. glass cut to 2" wide on the outside shear of my Guillemot and bought 2" wide and 1" wide, 9 oz. tape for the inside. I don't know if you can get tape less than 9 oz. precut. Newfound Woodworks recommended That I cut my own tape for the outside from the 6 oz. material I used for the whole boat. I Talked with someone at the rendezvous that used 9 oz tape on the outside who said he would not use it again as it was hard to keep it from showing.
