The name of the book by R.D Culler is "Boats, Oars and Rowing"- a good source on rowing boats, oarmaking, rowing gear (leathers and oarlocks). He covers spoon oars, traditional spruce and ash oars, and has plans in the book. I think Amazon has it in stock, but it might be in your local library

Good luck!
