>Thanks Shawn. How far along are you on your 18'? How did you calculate the measurement to compensate for the extra foot of length? Are you dissatisfied with the performance of the Expedition so you have redesigned the Guillemot? I have not paddled a sea kayak before just yaks the size of Dagges, so i am a bit concerned. Thanks
No, actually, I just thought the Guillemot was a little too maneuverable, and a bit slow with its 15' waterline. I liked the upturned ends for wave performance, but wanted a bit more speed and volume, so I stretched it to 18. I simply changed the form spacing to 12.75" rather than the design 12". I will probably begin stripping it this weekend.
I would definitely recommend paddling a few more boats so that you can get a good idea of what design characteristics you like in a boat before you commit yourself to 100-300 hours of construction.
Shawn
