Re: Hatch Covers

Posted by: Randy Knauff on December 3, 1999

I have used those 5 gallon bucket spin-ons for my waste system on river raft trips. They seal pretty well. I've retrofitted spin in deck plates (can get them up to 10 inch hole) to some of my older fiberglass kayaks. Sometimes you have to make a tapered shim ring to adapt them to a curved deck, but they seal up well, also. I like my custom, arched, beautiful matching grain hatches on my Chesapeake 18, but have no problems with putting "what works" on my older boats used for renting and/or guided trips.
