I'm currently assembling a Patuxent 17.5, roughly the same length as the Arctic Term, maybe a few inches longer. I have a garage, approximately 22' deep (inside dimension). I would strongly suggest making your shed longer than 20'. A 20' long area is only 3 feet longer than an Arctic Tern, which won't give you much room on the ends to work. If you're thinking about putting it in diagonally, forget it. 10' will be just enough to work on it if the boat is straight and centered. Most of the work is done from the sides, and 10' will give you 4' on each side, which is just enough to work comfortably. More length would definitely be a benefit when wiring the ends and glassing the hull. Sheds are like garages, they are never big enough. Plus, it will give you enough room in case the next kayak you build is longer. Remember, you are on the verge of becoming an addict.

Good luck and happy building,

Ken
