This is the first that I've seen of the Puffin, and the phrase 'what the heck...?' was the first to go through my head. I'm biased toward the Greenland style, but I could see building a boat like this for my brother the biologist/ornithologist. Its short length should mean good wetland maneuverabiliy and the wide beam would be good for watching birds through binoculars. The rather high deck makes me wonder how it would handle on big, open water, but if this design came from the Aleut natives, it must work.
But wassup with that big eyelet on the end? I have to say that although functional, it looks a bit too odd. Although it does get the creative juices flowing -- how about a nice, low-arched hardwood handle on the bow of my next boat? Or just an oval-shaped slot boxed into the Greenland-style bow. Hmmm...
