Got one on my Dagger Sitka. I don't use it much 'cause the boat responds so well to leans, but it is quite effective as long as it stays in the water. When you get some waves and the stern's out there in mid-air, it doesn't do much good. It's designed just as you suggest; as if the bottom edge of the end of the stern has been removed and replaced with a foil rudder of the same shape. The butterfly foot peddles are great. Rotate your toes around the peg to turn the rudder, but you can still lock your legs in and brace you knees against the deck. Nice design and beefy hardware.
