So what gives?

kit manufacturers try to make the process as simple as possible, "1 roll of tape" as opposed to "mask an area that you think will be most prone to abrasion on first layer of glass while in the green stage,glass,then lay a few extra layers of bias cut cloth along the bow and stern ," etc. also a big piece of cloth will have a little more wastage. Possibly plywood is a little more consistant in hardness compared to a stripper?
