The Scout Master for my son’s Boy Scout Troop just finished a canoe with a flat transom for a motor. His intent is to use it as a safety on troop canoeing trips. He started with plans for a standard canoe from a magazine and then modified them. I believe he kept the beam from narrowing to much at the rear half of the boat. Then finished the boat with a transom stern.

However I have to comment that it appears to be unstable with a motor added to it. On his third outing with the canoe he tested it with a motor. The center of gravity was so high that when he turned to reach for something on the motor he was cast overboard by the tipping boat. As described in a previous response the bow rides several inches out of the water. In fact the bow is out of the water for about one third the length of the boat. I would not even want to think about casting a fishing line from the boat.

I would strongly recommend you look into a boat designed for a motor in the first place.
