High gloss glass like finish

How to achieve a High gloss glass like finish. Does anyone know of any good web sites that suggest to achieve this or can anyone provide instructions as to how. I'm trying to finish a Kayak paddle that I built as a Christmas present ( yes I know the clock is ticking). I tried using "rotten stone", the result was incredible smooth but not glossy. What gives? I used 320 - 400 - 600 grit before using the rotten stone.
