erez, I take no credit for the cockpit recess idea. This is exactly what Nick does on the Guillemot. I simply used the same idea on the Puffin, since the deck shape on the Bering Sea style kayak gives a VERY high deck. We liked it so much that we are planning to do it on all of our boats. Yes, it does substantially lower the cockpit coaming. Depending on the deck shape this can be an inch to several inches.
