A couple of other things to consider; usually the plans published in books are older generations of a design or older designs. Cape Charles vs Chesapeke, or Guillamot vs Night Heron. Also, it is generally understood that building from a book or from "free" plans like Nicks S&G design comes with limited or no technical support. You are on your own where the plans generally come with answers to whatever questions come up along the way.
Of course, out of the goodness of his heart Nick runs this BBS, and for that he deserves our support. But I like being able to email Joe to get the designers opinion on a problem or a possible change, and those kind of questions generally aren't answered by the designer in a public forum on a plans-built boat.
