Re: Epoxy Question

Posted by: lee on December 29, 1999

hey tom, what kind of epoxy? Assuming that the ratios were right and that you mixed the heck out of the stuff then 3days of tackiness could be normal for some kinds of epoxies at that temp,ie,reg. cure MAS. regular West systems and Sys 3 would probably be tack free by now. I'm not sure if an epoxy that blushes can have subsequent layers bond well during the tack-free but not cured stage, hey you experts out there, what's the answer? Usually your epoxy container will state that for every X degrees below some temp (77?) double the cure time. Don't know what you mean "will the cure be affected because of the length of time?" just a wild guess but if the temp stayed at 45 it might take a month for a complete cure,at room temp a week,at 100degrees a day. I don't think ultimate strength of the laminate will vary a great deal whether it cures for a month cold or room temp for a week but that's just opinion and whacking panels talking,no calibrated test setting. otherwise wash and sand it again before glassing when it's hard
