Re: Help! How do I select which kayak to build?

Very good. You're further along on kayak selection then many people are when they ask that question. Now refine it. Things like how much gear do you expect to cary? How comfortable are you with tippyness? Is tracking important or is manueverability the big thing for you? Is it calm waters and day trips almost always, or are you secretly longing to go down rivers and surf the waves?

Then spend some time looking for pretty. Building a boat that you think is ugly is a real waste of time.

When it's all said and done, with few exceptions, by and large almost all kits and plans are for pretty decent watercraft. So even if the one you select isn't the "perfect" boat for your application, or your application changes, the boat will still do a good job at it.

Fwiw, I built a CLC Mill Creek. I was intimidated by stripping, and wanted a short little boat for exploring tight areas, sneaking up on wildlife, and general puttering around. I do not ever see myself and this boat on the ocean, or fast rivers.
