shrinking Exp. Single and ripping help

Posted by: pete czerpak on December 30, 1999

Hi, I'm thinking about building an Expedition Single and was wondering if the main difference in tracking between it and the normal Guillimot is only due to the additional length or also due to design. The reason I ask this is that I want to build a fairly stable (strong tracking) boat for my father, but don't really want the 19 ft length. If I shorten it to 18 or 17 ft long will it still be more stable than the regular Guillimot or about the same?

Will it retain its better tracking when scaled down a bit?

Thanks for any info?

I'm also looking for a good source of cove and bead strips near Albany, NY or a nice person who might be willing to help some weekend and rip strips for me in return for some boatbuilding moneys of their own or a stash of excellent homebrewed beer/wine. Any takers out there??

I can't really stomach the cost of strips via mail order when compared to how much the solid boards cost...

Thanks and Happy Boatbuilding holidays, Pete czerpak Albany, NY
