this issue was going on a while ago.

If you use butt blocks, then forget the tapes on the outside. the blocks will be strong enough & the glass cloth on the outside of the hull will give you the rest of the strength.

another option is to do what the instructions says. it will be strong, & the pieces will hold themselves together during the construction. when you are ready to saturate the the outside of the hull with epoxy, sand the outside "fancy tape" away & saturate everything. take it easy on the hull untill you glass it.

that's what I did on my coho.
