When I built my Arctic Tern hull, I was very unhappy with the look of the joints. Here's how I solved the problem on the deck: I assembled the deck as per Pygmy's instructions but before I attached it to the hull I reinforced the inside of the butt joints with plywood (I used some of the 3 1/2" stock that came in the kit). Then I removed the tape from the outside of the joint. It is quite easy to remove, just work a razor blade under the edge to loosen it and it will pull off in one piece; no need to sand it off. Sand the seem smooth, attach the hull to the deck and glass. I have had no problems with the joints and they look great. I only wish I had done this on the hull. There have been quite a few posts on this board from builders who were unhappy with the taped joints. I would recommend this alternative to anyone beginning to build a Pygmy. Other than that, the Tern is a great boat. I am nearing completion of a CLC Chesapeake 16LT and I can already tell that it is also going to be a terrific boat.
