I think the Pygmy instructions say to use a 1/16th drill, and drill three or four holes right near each other along the line where you will be cutting. I did just that, then removed the small amount of wood between holes with a very sharp utility/razor knife. After doing that I was able to get the tip of my keyhole saw in, and begininning with very short strokes using just the tip, gradually get enough cut to where I could cut with fuller strokes.T
The 1/16th drill was almost exactly as wide as the saw I used to cut the hatch out, so there were no extra scars at all. When the hatch was completely cut, you could not tell where I started, or where the drill holes were made. Just don't use a drill bigger than however wide a path your sawblade will make. Test on some scraps if you are unsure.
