Paul, When I did my sons Cape Charlie, I taped and cut the ends, then melt the ends, like George said. I then bought some 50# test nylon fishing line and whipped the ends, then form a loop on each end. I whipped the two loops closed and painted the whipping black to match. Clean look and no knots. Whichever way works. Happy paddlin :)
