inside sheer?

I'm about to glass the inside of the deck. I was thinking that if I left an inch or two of fibreglass cloth beyond the sheer strip and carefully resined only up to the sheer strip, I could then use this excess cloth to bind the hull and deck together instead of using a separate piece of fibreglass tape.

Anyone else try this before? was it successful and/or worth it?
