Re: SEA SCOUTS WANT TO BUILD

By the way, Dennis, Just to add to what Ross said about inexpensive materials (I forgot that I'd just listed plans sources)

I second the recommendation for Raka--good stuff at a low, low price.

Noah's Marine Supply http://www.noahsmarine.com/ has great prices on marine plywood. You can get the BS 6566 grade, which is beautiful, marine grade wood, but only slightly less perfect than the expensive BS 1088. 4mm sheets cost $27 ea. I'm sure they'd give you some break by buying such a large quantity. Some of their glass prices are also cheaper than Raka's. (Raka still has the lowest epoxy prices in the country (that I know of)).

Lauan isn't bad stuff; it's not the greatest stuff either. Now that I think about it, if I ever build another S&G, I'm going to hunt down some of that 6566 okoume and spend $60-70 more on a boat that I will paddle for a long, long time.
