Sanding the Hull

If you are careful gluing up your strips, the sanding can go quite quickly. My process here was:

  • Scrape the Glue
  • Rough Sand with 60 grit using a random orbital
  • Roughly fair with a long board
  • Scrape down high spots
  • Do a more complete fairing with the long board
  • Sand again with 60 grit to get a uniform surface
  • Move up to 80 grit
  • Random orbital
  • Hand sand
  • Move up to 100 grit
  • Long Board
  • Random Orbital
  • Hand sand
  • Wet-down the wood
  • Move up to 120 grit
  • Random Orbital
  • Hand Sand

I vary this process depending on the boat and what I feel like.
