I am privileged to take over the reins for this class from Ted Moores who had taught at the WoodenBoat School for 17 years. This one day workshop at the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking in Manchester CT will provide interested boatbuilders a solid overview of the strip-planked method of building small boats.

If you have a wooden kayak, you really need a wooden paddle. In this 5 evening class students will build their own laminated wood kayak paddle. The paddle can be feathered or unfeathered. We will glue up the wood, cut the blade pieces, glue them to the shaft and shape the blades.

I'll be making a presentation at the Connyak April meeting. I've been asked to talk about kayak design. The goal is to help people who want to design their own boat as well as give guidance to people who are buying boats and want to have some tools for evaluating designs

Kayak Builders Gathering

This annual gathering of kayak builders and people interested in home-built kayaks has been going for over 10 years. People drive from all around the North East to see what people have made over the winter. This is a good chance to see finished boats in person. The other boat builders are often kind enough to allow you to sit in and paddle the boats they built, giving you a chance to test before you build.
