I used three woods: It is primarily western red cedar, with some ash and Peruvian mahogany. I used four nine foot cedar 1" x 12 " boards from a local lumberyard, one of which was much lighter in color. There are two strips of ash down the bottom of the hull, which you cannot see, as they end short of the bow and stern. The entire hull is otherwise the darkest boards from the red cedar. Most of the deck is also red cedar. Thus, the color separation you see on the deck at the front and rear is simply two colors of the red cedar. However, the lightest wood immediately fore and aft of the cockpit is the much whiter ash.
