How to Make a Kayak - Fiberglassing the Inside

I'm using 4 ounce glass on the inside. I did not have a long enough roll to cover the whole deck in one piece so I pieced it together with an overlap at the front and back of the cockpit. I also slipped a strip of carbon fiber in between the layers behind the cockpit. Again, I cranked the heat up to 90°F (32°C) several hours before starting then turned down the thermostat to 80°F (27°C) when I started and down again to 70°F (21°C) when I finished the saturation coat.

Notice that I trimmed back the excess glass on the hull when I had it partially saturated. I first left it a little large in case I needed to move it for some reason, but the weight of the cloth can cause it to lift off the top edge. Trimming it removed this weight.

I want to keep the fabric texture on the interior so I lightly rolled on a fill coat to seal any pin holes. This was applied a few hours after the saturation coat. When the fill coat was completed I turned the temperature down to 60°F (16°C).
