I used three woods: It is primarily western red cedar, with some ash and Peruvian mahogany. I used four nine foot cedar 1" x 12 " boards from a local lumberyard, one of which was much lighter in color. There are two strips of ash down the bottom of the hull, which you cannot see, as they end short of the bow and stern. The entire hull is otherwise the darkest boards from the red cedar. Most of the deck is also red cedar. Thus, the color separation you see on the deck at the front and rear is simply two colors of the red cedar. However, the lightest wood immediately fore and aft of the cockpit is the much whiter ash. The cockpit coaming is the mahogany, which has a beautiful glow to it, and there is a thin strip of the mahogany running down the center of the deck from the bow and stern to the ash. The upright part of the cockpit is alternating strips of ash and mahogany.
